Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) of University of Toronto Visit and Presentation at ISNA High School on Friday, January 15th, 2010 — EVENT SUMMARY WITH PICTURES

January 21, 2010

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

1) Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) at the University of Toronto, St. George (Downtown) Campus (UofT), aim is to continue to help the orphans all over the world, to the best of our abilities year after year.

We hope to achieve our aim by also encouraging and aiding others to start up similar orphan sponsorship initiatives at their university, school, campus, association, community, etc.

Insha’Allah.

2) Along with some high schools, OSP has also helped universities across Canada and USA to start their own orphan sponsorship initiatives, Masha’Allah.

OSP has been educating students and the community about the plight of the orphans by means of talks, seminars, emails, posters, and annual events (including bake sales, information booths, fundraising dinner, video game tournament events, sending letters/cards/gifts to the orphans, and visiting the orphans in person), Alhamdulillah.

3) On Friday, January 15th, 2010, OSP at UofT was invited to speak at ISNA High School (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) to encourage and aid the high school students to start their own orphan sponsorship initiative.

Daanish Afzal (OSP Co-Head Coordinator), Sarah Khan (OSP Co-Head Coordinator), and Asna Ahmad (OSP Senior Advisor) visited ISNA High School.

The OSP team would like to convey A Special Thank You and Jazak Allahu Khairan to Mrs. Syma Daimee (Asna’s mother) for being at ISNA High School with us, for helping and supporting us on Fri. Jan. 15th, 2010.

It was a very successful event.  The staff and students at ISNA High School greatly appreciated and enjoyed OSP at UofT Presentation and OSP Information Booth in ISNA school’s Gym.  ISNA High School is very enthusiastic in starting their own orphan sponsorship initiative like OSP at UofT.  Allahu Akbar!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

1) Canadian Tax Receipt for Donors

The total amount of 2009 donor tax receipt requests which can be accommodated is up to $50,000.  This amount is almost reached.

So, if you wish to receive a Canadian tax receipt for your future donation, you can donate after December 2009 (i.e. between January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010) to be accommodated in the next cycle of tax receipt for 2010.  Note: Tax receipts are issued upon request.  If you’d like a tax receipt, kindly provide us with your full name and mailing address when donating.

However, if you do not wish to receive a tax receipt for your donation, you can donate in December 2009 and onwards.

Thank you!

2) Appeal for Donations!

We now require around $12,000 to re-sponsor the remaining 19 orphans out of the 131 orphans for another year, so please help us continue this entirely volunteer student initiative!

Please donate generously to help those children who have no one else. We thank you if you have already sent in your donations and encourage you to spread the word, telling others to donate (the one who tells others to do good will be rewarded as the doer of the good)!

For further detailed information about ways to donate, how much it costs to sponsor an orphan for a year, countries of sponsorship, and donor opportunities, see the following link on the OSP site:

3) First Ever OSP at UofT Video Game Tournament Event on November 20th, 2009 – A Social Event for a Worthy Cause

The event was successful!  Coordinated by OSP at UofT, it provided a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of orphans worldwide while building brotherhood on campus and in the community.

Men – students, donors, and members of the community – gathered together for a video game tournament.  The winner received a prize.

The event was successful in raising awareness about the OSP at UofT program and plight of orphans worldwide while fundraising in the process.  Proceeds from the event also went to OSP to sponsor orphans.  OSP is always looking to broaden its volunteer base and this initiative enabled us to recruit new volunteers.

We received positive feedback and support for such events in the future.  It is our hope that we can make this a regular event in the future

4) OSP at UofT featured in The Newspaper in November 2009

Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) Urgent Appeal for Donations!

September 8, 2009

As the last few days of Ramadan (Month of Fasting) are approaching, what better way of earning the benefits of these important days than by helping an orphan?

The Orphan Sponsorship Program is currently sponsoring 131 orphans from over 20 countries. So far, we have only raised enough to re-sponsor around 21 orphans out of the 131.  We now require around $50,000 to re-sponsor the remaining 110 orphans for another year, so please help us continue this entirely volunteer student initiative!

Please donate generously to help those children who have no one else. We thank you if you have already sent in your donations and encourage you to spread the word, telling others to donate (the one who tells others to do good will be rewarded as the doer of the good)!

Donations can be made online via PayPal (see our link on the right-hand side), by cheque or cash donations at the MSA Iftaars (free dinner to break the fast) on campus, as well as at Friday/Jummah prayers on campus

Cheque or cash donations can also be passed to official OSP representatives.  Email us at osp.uoft@yahoo.ca for futher details and we can arrange for an OSP representative to meet with you at convenient date/location.
