December 6, 2009

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

1) Canadian Tax Receipt for Donors

The total amount of 2009 donor tax receipt requests which can be accommodated is up to $50,000.  This amount is almost reached.

So, if you wish to receive a Canadian tax receipt for your future donation, you can donate after December 2009 (i.e. between January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010) to be accommodated in the next cycle of tax receipt for 2010.  Note: Tax receipts are issued upon request.  If you’d like a tax receipt, kindly provide us with your full name and mailing address when donating.

However, if you do not wish to receive a tax receipt for your donation, you can donate in December 2009 and onwards.

Thank you!

2) Appeal for Donations!

We now require around $12,000 to re-sponsor the remaining 19 orphans out of the 131 orphans for another year, so please help us continue this entirely volunteer student initiative!

Please donate generously to help those children who have no one else. We thank you if you have already sent in your donations and encourage you to spread the word, telling others to donate (the one who tells others to do good will be rewarded as the doer of the good)!

For further detailed information about ways to donate, how much it costs to sponsor an orphan for a year, countries of sponsorship, and donor opportunities, see the following link on the OSP site:

3) First Ever OSP at UofT Video Game Tournament Event on November 20th, 2009 – A Social Event for a Worthy Cause

The event was successful!  Coordinated by OSP at UofT, it provided a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of orphans worldwide while building brotherhood on campus and in the community.

Men – students, donors, and members of the community – gathered together for a video game tournament.  The winner received a prize.

The event was successful in raising awareness about the OSP at UofT program and plight of orphans worldwide while fundraising in the process.  Proceeds from the event also went to OSP to sponsor orphans.  OSP is always looking to broaden its volunteer base and this initiative enabled us to recruit new volunteers.

We received positive feedback and support for such events in the future.  It is our hope that we can make this a regular event in the future

4) OSP at UofT featured in The Newspaper in November 2009

Recently, OSP at UofT was featured in The Newspaper (widely-read UofT’s Independent Community weekly paper) in November 2009.

We’re looking for dedicated individuals to represent OSP at various different locations/campuses/schools/cities/provinces, etc.

– Help organize a Bakesale/fundraiser or simply arrange for a donation box to be kept for OSP in your respective area.

– Arranging other University campuses/high schools etc to fundraise for OSP and/or organize OSP events (OSP has given talks in a high-school to encourage students to donate, similarly we’ve aided other campus groups to start their own programs in Canada and USA)

– Or simply just letting people in your area know of OSP (via email/word of mouth)

If interested in this position apply by August 31, 2009 at osp.uoft@yahoo.ca.  Kindly email us:

– Your name & contact information
– Your education background (year/program of study)
– Why you would like to help out OSP.
